Fido and Trigger are welcome guests at Sundance Bear in either the log cabin or the guest house. We will do our best to make them feel at home. However ours are the only cats, and they reside in the main lodge.
We enjoy our animals and know having yours with you can enhance your vacation and we are happy to offer this possibility. However, anytime animals are introduced to a strange situation, things may not go as predicted. If you are bringing a dog or a horse, we require a signed liability release form.
Dogs (click here for release form) With prior agreement, your dog is welcome in the Log Cabin or the Guest House. The Main Lodge is home to our pets, and we respect their domain by not having visiting pets in the main lodge. Our pets are not allowed in either the Log Cabin or Guest House.
Please bring your dog's bed so he/she will be comfortable and have something familiar. You are also welcome to use the 80+ acres for walking, running, playing with your pet but please keep them away from the horses. Also there may be another visiting dog with other guests, so the situation could be confusing for the pets. Should there be a problem, we may ask you to keep your pet inside or in our outside portable kennel, or on a leash.
Please know that our dog, Chester, has the run of the property. Our experience is that he gets along with the visiting pet (usually), or leaves it alone.
Horses (click here for release form) If you are traveling with your horse(s), we can provide "lodging" for one or more. It depends on whether they will share a 60 foot corral or need to be separated. Prior agreement at time of reservation is required. Their lodging isn't as luxurious as what we provide for you, but we have 2 large (60ft) sand corrals with water and loafing shed. We move our mares to another pasture, so there are no discussions about who is head of the herd! The corrals are visible from the main house. Be sure your horse's shots are current.
Horse trailer: Our driveway entrance is up a hill with some relatively tight turns. Please discuss with us any concerns regarding your trailer access. (For reference, we drive a Ford F150 with a bumper hitch two horse slant trailer without any trouble.) But if you're bigger, be sure to talk to us about it. We have a couple of places near the barn on a circle drive plus near the corrals to park your trailer.
Finally, not strictly a pet, but our logo came out of desire to have "bear" be part of the name. When we got here and saw the sunsets and heard stories about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid, it all came together. Now we have trees carved with bears - it never ends! By the way, we've only seen a live bear twice and he didn't bother anything except our trash cans.
JD and Morris
are our cats. JD (the gray one) got his name at the pound and we
think it means Juvenile Delinquent - he's always into something.
Weird cat! Morris is orange and if you remember the commercials
like we do, that puts you in a specific age bracket. Your kids
probably never heard of Morris, the finicky cat.
(Note for those of you with cat allergies, the cats live in the main house, but are never in either the cabin or guest house. We try to keep them out of the main lodge bedrooms, but they do sneak in on rare occasions.)
Fiona
and Tessa are the horses, one morgan-passo cross and one passo fino.
They are living a very soft life on the Sundance Bear "ranch".
They get fed regularly, get to roam a large pasture and hill and are
ridden rarely. And lately they've even gotten demanding about WHEN
they are fed. Who's the boss?
Chester
is our greeter and doorbell. He is an Aussie Sheppard - Border
collie mix and LOVES to play stick and ball. He loves kids (they
play better). We even have a "street" named after him - actually
just the driveway to the Guest House, but it makes for conversation.
